Environmental Services: Love Made Visible
This day I am thankful for people who “turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.”* There are so many people who are working heroically during this crisis, and I wish I could acknowledge each of them, even while I single out one vitally important group this week.
Cleanliness, sanitization, safety, and infection control have always been critically significant to the effective operation of hospitals. Right now, these things are more important than ever, and that is why I want to express my appreciation to our Environmental Services team members.
When most of us are just waking up and preparing for the day, our EVS team members have been working throughout the night to make our facilities ready for another day of service. They begin each shift with a single goal: to make sure that every part of the hospital—including patient rooms—are clean and sanitary. They clean, sweep, mop, wax, vacuum, wash, empty, dispose, dust, change, restock, and replace. They make our hospitals sparkle!
They work efficiently and effectively, using just the right techniques to ensure sanitation. Right now, they are working extra hours to ensure that our hospital rooms are cleaned throughout every day and ready for the next patient who needs our care.
In conversations with them, you will soon discover why they do their jobs so faithfully. They may point out their role in creating great working environments for their colleagues. Or perhaps you may learn of their determination to do what they can to ensure the safety of our patients. Our colleagues in Environmental Services love and share in our mission. They have my respect and my great appreciation.
Thank you to each member of our Environmental Services team. You translate our mission into something that we can see every single day—and your faithful service blesses each of us.
