It's time to be well with your health. I'm Shanna.

I'm Nimeet.

Welcome to the Adventist HealthCare and You podcast. It's our annual year end wrap up podcast with just you and me, Nimeet. It's always good to see you.

It's always good to see you as I know.

So we've been doing this podcast now for two to three years, right?

Actually, our producers, what do they say? They're saying four years. Oh my gosh. That seems not like it's been that long. It feels much less time has gone by.

I bet. Yeah. And I think just just the memories we had and all the speakers we had.

I know.

It's been just fascinating.

It's been fun to do this.

And I've been I've learned a lot Yep.

Me too. It's been fun to do this.

And highlighting our experts and the work that we're doing in the community just continues to be a fun, exciting part of what we get to do.

Absolutely.

Yep.

All right. So as we always do, we take this little bit of time that we have and we reflect on our past goals and what we want to look forward to for twenty twenty six. So let's get right into it.

Yeah, absolutely.

Do you remember what your goals were?

You know, I was looking through that and I couldn't remember it. So I was like looking through the notes again. I was like, oh, I wanted to be intentional about spending time with my family for for this year. And let me tell you, I spent a lot of time with my family this year and it's been amazing. I've been wanting to dedicate at least couple hours a week. And I've been able to dedicate one hour a day over the past few months to really just disconnect with technology, disconnect with all these distractions that we have, and just truly just be in the moment with with my kids, with my wife, and it's just been truly fascinating.

Well, you welcome two new team members I sure do.

To your family and the extended Adventist HealthCare family. So Yeah. I'm glad you were able to do that this year.

You know, we had our twins that were born Yeah. In in March, and my baby girl and baby boy, they're they're about eight months old now. Oh.

And they're starting to crawl and and just the fun holiday events has been really great with that.

That's great. Well, my son reached a milestone as well. He's a little bit bigger than yours, but he's now taller than me. So Wow.

You know, that's, that's another milestone there to reach this year. All right. My goal, I also had to go back and remember what it was, was to be kinder to myself. And, you know, I'm over forty at this point in life and just body's changing and all of that.

And so my goal was to be kinder to myself and the changes that I'm going through.

And I feel like I was. I feel like I I took more time to think about my health. Yeah. Talk to my doctors, see what I needed to do.

And so I didn't necessarily set any sort of health goals, but it was more just to continue to be comfortable and be kind to myself that it's okay that things are changing.

Yeah. So. And then are you thinking about the upcoming year with that mentality? And like, what are your thoughts?

Yeah. I would like to continue that. I would like to continue that. So I'll set a new intention, but I'm gonna continue with that idea in mind.

So to be kinder.

To just to be kind to and mindful of my, you know, negative thoughts.

There's a lot of negative thoughts nowadays. Right? And I think just to stay positive in that environment. Yes. You need to be very mindful about that.

Yeah. So when I was thinking about our past podcast episodes through the year, you know, one thing that continuously comes up year over year is setting goals, being intentional about your goals.

And it's more about small steps, not setting something that's unachievable or this huge thing that seems insurmountable, but taking really small steps. And I think we heard that from our experts again this year. Yep. That continued that that's the way to get something started.

Absolutely.

So what are your goals for twenty twenty six then?

Yeah. So, you know, just building upon the small steps that you need to take to to achieve your goal. One of the goals that I've been working on is is just to work out a little bit more.

Oh, okay.

And stretch, you know, I think as as my body's getting older as well, and with my two new little loved ones that are

That are here in the world, my time has been very constrained. So I'm trying to figure out, you know, how to make time to do a little mini workouts and and just stretch while catering to my family. So, you know, what I do is I I play with my kids when they're on the floor And I do some stretches and some yoga with them and just put on a video just just follow along with it. Yeah. And they're quick ten minute to fifteen minute videos. Nice. So you could really slice and dice time out of your day to ensure that you're being mindful of your body and then keep up with with as you age further.

Well, and it shows you being active and you're including the family too. Oh, that's what you're I like that too.

So I a toddler as well and he's been stretching with me.

So whenever I touch my toes, he like bends down with me.

Yeah. He's like, oh, let's stretch dad.

That's good. That's good.

That's It's been a very good activity.

Yeah. Not everybody's able to do that. But any any little bit that you can encourage, you know, little things like that is nice as a family.

Exactly. So I would like to build upon that over the next year and probably solidify some more time to to just keep those workouts going. Yeah.

And then be good role models for my kids as That's good.

I like that. So my goal for twenty twenty six is I started this year walking more and and doing it a couple times a week. I even do it with somebody. Yeah. Because I just I don't do great kind of doing things on my own.

I have a hard time motivating myself to do it on my Because have an accountability partner.

Yes, exactly. And that's kind of what it serves as. So I've been doing that more. And it's been really just a nice opportunity to talk and be social. You know, I get caught up in social media and behind the screen sort of things, and this is a different thing. And so I want to keep that practice and be more mindful of the movement and encouraging myself to keep doing that walking and that it's good for me.

Yeah. Do you track the number of steps you take each day or each week?

You know, I was at the beginning and I just found myself creating this long, long list of, you know, I walked today for thirty minutes for this amount of miles.

And now I'm just more, I'm just like, if I can get to thirty five minutes and two miles, I'm happy. Yeah. Because that's a, that, to me, that feels like a good amount. And it's what I can do.

And then if I can do a little longer and we're still chatting, then we go a little longer. So I found myself being so conscious of wanting to write it down and, oh, I only did thirty three minutes instead of thirty five minutes that it became not fun. So now I'm just like, oh, I'll just walk until I hit two miles. Yeah.

And that's the goal.

So But I think it's it's a good measurable goal.

Right? Yeah. You could quantify it and, you know, I need to walk at least two miles per per week or per What, you know, what are your goals are? So I think when you're setting those goals, it's very important to have those measurable outcomes this way. Yeah. Could hold yourself accountable.

Yes. Yep. That's good. And then I'm not too hard on myself. If I get to just thirty minutes and I've I haven't gone quite that and I'm like, you know, I'm just tired tonight.

It's okay. I I did it. I at least walked.

Yeah. My phone and my my devices, like, measure how many steps I do each day.

So I've been tracking for the past year or two But I see the trend going down sometimes.

So it's a good motivator for me to to say, you know what? I need to walk or run a little bit for next couple of weeks.

Nice. Alright. Listeners, hold us accountable to our goals.

So reflecting on our podcast this year, what is one topic that you really liked? That you thought was a good episode?

I was looking through the episodes we did this past year and and the one that really stuck out to me was, the one that we interviewed, a cardiac patient, a heart attack survivor. Yes. I believe he was in his, early forties when he had the heart attack. I I really, connected with him when we talking to him because he was so relatable because as I'm approaching a similar age and with a significant cardiac history from my family as well, that's something that I need to be mindful.

So it was a it was a reality check for me to be mindful of my body and ensure that I'm taking the steps and precautions to to be very healthy. So, you know, when I have the yearly check of my provider, I did have those conversations with them saying that, you know what? I I am getting older. I do have a cardiac history.

And there's some recommendations that they have, so I've been working with that as well. But I think that speaker really motivated me to take that step. And him sharing his story was it definitely touched me and I'm hoping it touched our audience as well.

I think it did. That was one of our second episode. That was one of our most listened to for the year.

I believe it.

I think it did. And I agree with you. He had a great story to share and message for community. So I liked that one as well.

What about you?

The one that resonated the most with me was our episode with Doctor. Carolyn Young for perimenopause.

Oh, yeah.

It continues to be a hot topic in the news.

Just, you know, and I'm sort of beginning a stage of life that I'm thinking about that too. So learning more about that was really good for me and made me think differently just about my changing changing health and changing body. So I I really liked that one.

Yeah. Absolutely. And I know, you know, people don't think about that as they're they're getting older. And I think after listening to these sessions, they could go back and you know what? I need to invest more time learning more about this Yeah.

Because I need to see what I need to do to, you know, cope with it or find out the rest And ask questions.

Correct. All what questions to ask.

Yeah. What questions to ask. Yep. I agree.

We started a new podcast this year, too, that we're proud of, which is our Charting with Doctor McNeil series. As you know, Nimeet, she's our Chief Medical Officer. Doctor.

She's amazing Doctor I know, Doctor Patsy McNeil. And she started a new one this year to highlight specifically many of our excellent physicians across Adventist HealthCare and the good work that they're doing.

So I encourage our listeners to tune into those as well.

Yeah, we have great set of providers at Adventist HealthCare. I think they're truly dedicated to provide to our community. And there's, you know, I had a family member who's a patient a couple of weeks ago. Okay. And we had to go through AHC's healthcare system and the doctors really helped out with with our family members and we're we're so caring and we had such a positive experience.

That's excellent. I'm glad to hear that. So check out the Charting with Doctor. McNeil series, if you haven't yet.

All right. As we wrap up, we don't want to make this one too long, but what are we looking forward to with the podcast for twenty twenty six?

Any topics that you think we should tackle?

I'm looking forward to sharing more stories from our patients, learning from their experiences.

Yes.

And then just sharing the stories to our community. So as they're navigating our, this is a complex healthcare system. Yes. They could understand what they could do or resources they have to help navigate the system.

Yes. I like that.

I think that would be something that I'm looking forward to.

Would too. Yeah. I like that one. Let's go with that. Think I'm with you on that one. I think more stories from our community, more stories from our caregivers, I think always resonate and can be really much more impactful. So looking forward to that.

All right. Well, I think that's about it. Anything else?

No, but I think we just wrapped up a great year.

I think so too.

I'm looking forward to the next year.

Me too. Right. Well, thank you to our listeners. We are so grateful that you tune into each episode.
