How the New Tower Supports Heart Care Services at Shady Grove

Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center’s heart care team is not only their when you need them, they are nationally recognized for their comprehensive cardiac and vascular services to our community. The tower under construction at the hospital, will create even more efficiencies and upgrades to support their life-saving treatment of heart attacks and other cardiac conditions.

The tower will allow the hospital to move its Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology (CVIR) suite, from the original hospital building closer to the Emergency Department and other related departments. The repositioning will allow for a new, modern CVIR lab for continued innovation. The new lab will be connected to pre-surgery and surgical suites and the post-anesthesia care unit.

With the tower, heart patients will no longer need to travel to opposite ends of the hospital to register, prepare for and recover from procedures. The renovations will also allow patients to travel through discreet corridors during their care, enhancing privacy and safety. With a reduced footprint to travel, caregivers will be able to work with greater efficiency, saving precious minutes.

Shady Grove Heart Care Stands Out

These enhancements will bolster Shady Grove Medical Center’s top-notch heart care quality and experience. Shady Grove is one of three Chest Pain Centers in Maryland with Primary PCI Accreditation. This accreditation is based on an onsite evaluation by the American College of Cardiology, that inspects the hospital’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat heart attack patients. Shady Grove and its sister facility, Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center in Silver Spring, are the only Montgomery County hospitals with this distinction.

Shady Grove was also rated a High Performer in congestive heart failure treatment by U.S. News and World Report in 2021. The rating is based on patient outcomes, volume and advanced heart programs. Less than one-third of hospitals with cardiac programs large enough to be rated earn this distinction. Shady Grove is also home to a robust and nationally certified cardiac rehabilitation program, innovative treatments like Shockwave, which busts blockages caused by heart disease, and the only Enhanced External Counter Pulsation therapy lab in Maryland for chronic angina.

At Shady Grove, board-certified cardiologists, electrophysiologists, interventional radiologists and vascular surgeons all work cohesively to care for patients. They are supported by nurses with advanced certifications and specializations in heart care, registered dietitians, exercise physiologists and other specialists who guide heart patients to long-term recovery and ongoing well-being.
