Inside Our Fully Integrated Cardiac Care

Learn about the fully integrated cardiac care offered at Adventist HealthCare and the benefits of offering all these services under one roof.

With heart disease maintaining its position as the top cause of death among Americans, access to excellent cardiac care is essential. For residents of Prince George’s and Montgomery counties, integrated cardiac care at Adventist HealthCare and Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation ensures access to any service needed for optimal heart health.

“Having a fully integrated cardiac program means we are able to offer patients the full spectrum of cardiac care,” said Sreeker Reddy, DO, interventional cardiologist and director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center. “We provide services ranging from screening for cardiovascular disease to the most advanced technology and cutting-edge procedures.”

Diagnostic Services

Care for heart patients begins at Adventist HealthCare’s nationally recognized cardiac facilities, where accuracy and safety are high priorities. To detect heart disease, the cardiovascular team at Adventist HealthCare performs a physical exam and a variety of diagnostic tests, including:

  • Angiography
  • Blood tests
  • Cardiac catheterization
  • Chest X-ray
  • Computed tomography
  • Echocardiography
  • Electrocardiography
  • Electrophysiology
  • Magnetic resonance angiography
  • Tilt table testing

Our expert team then reviews the results to diagnose the disease and determine options for moving forward, toward better health.

Experts at Restoring Cardiac Health

With an appropriate diagnosis, the Adventist HealthCare cardiac team develops a tailored treatment plan. Depending on the specific case, a patient may benefit from one or more of the following specialties:

  • Cardiac surgery. Our team provides the full spectrum of cardiac surgery (minus LVAD and transplant). Team members also include surgeons with extraordinary expertise in minimally invasive mitral valve surgery.
  • Electrophysiology. Experts offer the full spectrum of ablations and device placement.
  • Interventional cardiology. Along with stenting, thrombectomy and other typical interventional procedures, patients receive vascular interventions and care of peripheral artery disease at our designated Cardiac Interventional Center.
  • Structural cardiology. Interventional cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and others collaborate to replace and repair heart valves and other identified structural issues.

In 2025, these services led to Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center earning the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry™ Silver Performance Achievement Award. This set the facility apart as one of the nation’s top hospitals for heart attack treatment.

“We define success by how our patients feel throughout the entire process,” Dr. Reddy said. “With that measuring stick, we are very successful.”

Rehabilitation to Maximize Benefit

Once patients complete their initial care at Adventist HealthCare, they’re seamlessly transitioned to Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation for cardiac rehabilitation.

“We have a very knowledgeable rehabilitation staff that operates to the highest standards of patient safety,” said Lauren Conley, MS, ASCM-CEP, clinical manager of Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation and Post-Acute Care Services at Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation. “We look at every patient as a whole person, not just a cardiac diagnosis.”

Certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation must continually meet strict standards regarding patient care policies, the execution of patient care, documentation of outcomes and continuing education. At any given time, the team cares for 80 to 90 patients, which equated to more than 750 visits in October 2025 alone.

Like other cardiac rehabilitation programs, our standard program consists of 36 sessions, spanning three to three and a half months. Most patients attend rehabilitation sessions three times a week. However, a two-day program is available to serve those who have difficulty attending three weekly sessions due to financial constraints, transportation issues or time limitations. This flexibility and attention have real-world implications for patient success.

“Typically, over 75% of our patients complete the full rehab program, which is above the national average,” Conley said.

This high completion rate helps expose patients to information intended to prevent future heart issues. At each rehab session, group education covers topics including:

  • Cardiovascular disease risk factors
  • Diet’s role in cardiovascular health
  • Exercise and physiology
  • Smoking cessation
  • Stress and weight management

By offering this education in a group setting, attendees develop bonds with one another, which helps foster accountability and leads to an improved completion rate. Three one-on-one counseling sessions further encourage compliance. At the first meeting, clinical team members work with patients to develop goals regarding body composition, cholesterol levels, MET levels, exercise tolerance, heart response and more.

Future one-on-one counseling sessions focus on the patient’s progress toward those goals, using measurements obtained through every step of rehabilitation.

“We go above and beyond to provide compassionate, encouraging care, and it pays off,” Conley said. “No one who comes to us is just a number, and that personalized attention sets us apart.”

Why Comprehensive Cardiac Care Matters

It is rare for a community health system to provide a fully integrated cardiac program. Such depth is typically reserved for academic health systems. As rare as such a program is outside of academia, Adventist HealthCare and Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation are committed to maintaining the program and growing it to continue meeting patient needs.

On top of convenience, offering comprehensive cardiac care brings a benefit that often takes place behind the scenes but has a substantial effect on the patient’s experience and health.

“The biggest benefit of having an integrated program is communication,” Dr. Reddy said. “Having all services within our system ensures timely communication among the patient’s physicians and allows for greater collaboration between doctors, which allows the patient to receive the best possible care.”
