Promoting Equity

Make A Difference

Black History Month offers many moments for reflection. The stories shared during this time challenge us, cause us to see things in new ways, bring circumstances that have been neglected into clearer focus, and inspire us to become better – both as individuals and as a community.

This year, the national theme for Black History Month is “Black Health and Wellness.” This theme resonates with our Mission and the work we do at Adventist HealthCare.

At Adventist HealthCare, we recognize the infinite worth of each individual by ensuring that every person is treated with respect and receives a world-class patient experience every time. Our commitment includes recognizing our own team members for their ongoing dedication and ensuring we provide culturally responsive and equitable care. I am grateful for the contributions of all our healthcare professionals and, especially in honor of Black History month, acknowledge the experiences and contributions of Black healthcare scholars, medical practitioners and healthcare workers whose talent, training and experience is fundamental to our endeavors and our success.

Furthermore, through our Community Partnership Fund, we provide funding to organizations whose work promotes health equity and wellness in our community. These organizations include community clinics, food pantries and shelters for people experiencing homelessness. We are constantly evaluating new opportunities to support organizations dedicated to addressing social and economic barriers.

Toni Morrison, an African American Nobel laureate, novelist and poet, wrote, “Make a difference about something other than yourselves.” As we reflect on these words in the context of Black History Month, we can recognize our Mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing as a call to “make a difference” and challenge ourselves to promote equitable health outcomes for all people in our community.
