New Care Tower Will Support Mental Health Services
Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center’s Behavioral Health Services is Maryland’s second largest provider of mental health services and the most comprehensive in Montgomery County. In recent years, Shady Grove has seen a significant jump in the number of patients who come voluntarily and involuntarily to our Emergency Department seeking mental health services.
The new patient care tower under construction at Shady Grove will add space to helping to address this growing challenge. Mental health patients are often impacted by noise and the animated activity of an emergency room, especially when it lacks modern privacy measures and workspaces. The tower’s replacement Emergency Department will better address those needs in its design, resulting in a care space that will better serve mental health patients, patients with other emergency needs and the hospital’s caregivers.
These upgrades will help Shady Grove further its mission to provide comprehensive mental health services to our community. Each year, 1 in 5 Americans are diagnosed with a mental illness or disorder, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Shady Grove is ready to help with hospital-based mental health programs and outpatient care for all ages. The hospital's compassionate board-certified psychiatrists, social workers, educators and specialized nurses work with patients to treat anxiety, social or behavioral disorders, depression and substance abuse illnesses.
Shady Grove is the only hospital in Montgomery County to hold the Gold Seal of Approval for Behavioral Health Care from The Joint Commission. This award is given to hospitals that obtain a distinguished level of patient safety and high-quality mental health services.
Shady Grove provides mental health services for all ages with several levels of care including inpatient and outpatient treatment, a partial hospitalization program, a group home and special and general education schooling. Shady Grove also operates The Lourie Center, which focuses on families with children from birth to age 12 who are experiencing behavioral, developmental, emotional and social challenges. Its programs include a therapeutic nursery program, Head Start, the Lourie Center school and a parent-child clinic.
With both emergency and behavioral health experts on its Rockville campus, Shady Grove is well positioned to meet the mental health needs of the community. Learn more about how you can support the hospital’s efforts and its new tower construction at AdventistSGMC.com/NextLevel
