Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation Ranks as a Top Facility

Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation Ranks as a Top Facility

With so many choices available, it can be difficult for patients and their families to choose the right rehabilitation center. For the past four years, Newsweek has teamed up with global market research and data firm Statista to identify America’s Best Physical Rehabilitation Centers.

These rankings are to provide patients with valuable information to aid in decision-making. Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation Rockville has again ranked among the top rehabilitation hospitals in the South for the second consecutive year.

“We strive to deliver world-class rehabilitation in Montgomery County so people don’t need to travel outside of their community to get the best possible care,” said Rob Grange, vice president of Post-Acute Care Services and administrator at Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation White Oak. “This ranking represents our high-quality clinical care and the skillset of our teams, the design of our programs, and the processes and procedures we have in place.”

Newsweek’s rankings recognized 280 inpatient rehabilitation facilities out of more than 1,000 across the United States. Results are based on surveys submitted by experts in the field, accreditation data and publicly available quality metrics

High-Quality Care for a Wide Range of Rehabilitation Needs

As the only acute rehabilitation center in Montgomery County, Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation provides comprehensive services that patients and their families can trust. Physical, occupational and speech therapists work collaboratively with board-certified physicians to personalize care for patients’ specific needs. We offer rehabilitation programs for a wide range of conditions, including:

“As part of a nonprofit health system, we offer mission-driven, compassionate, whole-person care,” Rob said. “We have a culture of service, and many tenured team members view our work as a ministry. This sets us apart and also shows in our outcomes. The functional improvement gains of the person served are larger and faster than our competitors.”

Team members work closely with one another, communicating frequently through weekly team conferences, individual patient schedules and updates shared with all specialties and daily huddles.

Quality and Convenience

In addition to exceptional services, we are always looking for ways to make care more convenient. The freestanding Rockville location is next to Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center. At the end of 2021, a second rehabilitation location opened in Montgomery County within Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center. This made for a seamless hospital transfer into inpatient rehabilitation.

Both sites have added services for the convenience of patients and their families.

“No matter where you are in the county, you’re not more than 20 minutes away from one of our inpatient rehab facilities,” Rob said. “Each one is also within about a mile of major roadways, so the convenience of our locations is very attractive.”

On-site dialysis is now available at both the Rockville and White Oak locations. Telepsychology services became available last year to address the mental health issues that often accompany rehabilitation patients.

“We realized psychiatrists are very hard to find and that was keeping some people from getting care here, as we didn’t have the proper provider teams for patients needing that type of care,” Rob said. “So, we partnered with a telepsychology service to ensure that this aspect of care is being managed while patients are undergoing rehabilitation.”

Our team continually seeks ways to improve care by offering specialty services and personal touches. For example, we have partnered with Canine Companions, an organization that trains service and facility dogs and matches them with healthcare professionals and people with disabilities around the country. Our facility dog, Peru, a trained half-Labrador and half-golden retriever, works with a rehabilitation psychologist to help patients gain the skills needed to recover while offering emotional comfort and support. Peru sees patients in the White Oak location. It is with great anticipation that our facility dog program is extending to our Rockville location by the end of the year.

Dedication to Excellence

Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation was the first acute rehab facility to be certified by the Commission on Accredited Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) within a five-state area in all four of its specialty areas, including:

  • Amputation
  • Brain injury
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Stroke

Each specialty program continues to maintain CARF accreditation. This recognition means that these programs meet internationally recognized standards for quality, giving patients peace of mind that the facility is dedicated to continuous enhancement of services.

Accredited by The Joint Commission, Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation meets national standards for patient safety and the highest quality care. We also use the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality standards, developed by the American Society for Quality, as a guide when building and maintaining our processes and systems, as well as when looking at ways to continue to improve and meet the needs of our patients.
