Labor Day 2021

Strength. Prosperity. Well-being.

Next Monday marks our country’s annual celebration of Labor Day – a time to honor the many contributions workers have made to “America’s strength, prosperity and well-being.” I’d like to take a moment to take a closer look at these concepts in regard to our dedicated Adventist HealthCare family.

Strength. We are a company of teams – and I see our teams hard at work every single day. We are persistent in focus, constantly aware of what our patients need and are experiencing. We are flexible in working through challenges, often standing together through long shifts and difficult circumstances. We are dedicated in returning to shared tasks in a true spirit of partnership. And that foundation of working together toward our shared Mission is what makes Adventist HealthCare strong.

Prosperity. Another word for prosperity is thriving – and enabling people to thrive through the ministry of healing is a fair description of what our team members work hard to create and sustain each day.  Healthy individuals are the key to healthy communities, which are, in turn, vital to prosperity. One of the reasons that our entire organization takes health equity seriously is because we know how important it is to the growth and success of the communities we serve.

Well-being. The Mission of Adventist HealthCare is to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing. This approach to whole-person care and well-being is key to our understanding of how to fully support those we serve. Furthermore, our core value of respect—which we define as recognizing the infinite worth of each individual—powerfully reflects this shared commitment by dedicated professionals in helping each person in their personal path to health and total well-being.

These three words – strength, prosperity and well-being – carry weight and significance as they describe the very real work that you and your fellow team members are doing. Labor Day gives us an extra opportunity to celebrate – but every day, our patients and their family members send letters or post on social media about the compassionate and expert care they receive at Adventist HealthCare. And every day we are grateful for the blessings that flow through your skilled and experienced hands.
