It's your WGTS ninety one point nine with Jerry and Claude, and it's time for today's Health Minute. We're here. Well, we're just about here. At the time when school gets out, you're like, okay.
What are the kids gonna do next? And you don't want them sitting in front of a a video game screen or Netflix all summer long. So for athletic, maybe you're looking to get them involved in more athletics. How do you keep that young athlete motivated?
Yeah. We've got Jason Herron here, exercise physiologist with Adventist HealthCare Sports Performance Institute with us to discuss how athletes can gain a competitive edge while still having fun during the summer. Okay. How can working on proper conditioning and group training during the summer help our student athletes stay healthy, during the season?
Yes. So the summer is a really good time to take your game to the next level. The summer is a great opportunity to build up strength, increase athleticism, and recoup from long sports seasons that might happen during the school year. Summer is a really good opportunity to recoup for from both physical and mental stressors.
Why should parents consider additional training or classes for their young athlete?
Yeah. Adding additional group classes is really beneficial for them. It helps athletes prepare for game scenarios and be ready for clinics and tryouts, helps them build that teamwork and foundational communications skills. It's really good to encourage healthy competition, and it's creates a fun environment that's great for the kids.
Alright. Now what should parents look for when considering sports performance classes and training for the young athlete? Because there's so many out here. How do we know we're picking a good one?
Yeah. Really important things to look for are what are the goals of the class, and do they align with the sport that you compete in? Make sure the frequency is something manageable enough to allow them to build consistency and make sure they're tracking measurable progress throughout the class. Also, working with someone who's qualified to implement and supervisor training.
