Urgent Care Accreditation - What Does it Mean?
Urgent care centers: you’ve probably seen them driving down the road, or heard about them from a friend. One thing is for sure, urgent care centers seem to be just about everywhere.
More and more urgent care centers are helping to fill the gap between primary care and the emergency department, offering more convenient access and cost savings.
“Urgent Care is a quick, convenient option when you have a minor injury or illness that doesn’t require an emergency department visit and your regular doctor isn’t available,” says Amra Nasir, MD, Medical Director, Clinical Operations at Adventist HealthCare Urgent Care. But with what seems like a different center on every corner, how do you know which to choose? One factor to consider is if the center has any quality or safety recognition. The Urgent Care Association (UCA) Accreditation is a national program that highlights urgent care centers that meet its standards for service, safety, and quality. The accreditation is the highest level of distinction for urgent care centers.
Recently, Adventist HealthCare Urgent Care received accreditation status from the Urgent Care Association (UCA) Accreditation Program. With centers located in Germantown, Rockville and Laure, all received accreditation status and are one of only a few centers in Montgomery County that have achieved accreditation through the UCA.
Organizations receive the UCA Accreditation status upon passing an in-person survey of the facilities.
THEY ARE JUDGED BASED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
- Patient care process
- Health record management
- Human resources
- Patient privacy, rights, and responsibilities
- Physical environment
- Quality improvement
- Certification criteria/scope of care
Another reason to choose Adventist HealthCare Urgent Care is the connection to the Adventist HealthCare system of local hospitals and physicians, ensuring patients receive the right care when they need it. Dr. Nasir says, “there are a lot of choices when it comes to urgent care. We are part of Adventist HealthCare and now the UCA Accreditation gives our patients that extra confidence that they are choosing the right urgent care when they walk through our doors.”
