Local Employers in Maryland, Virginia and D.C. Demonstrate Their Commitment to Fighting Flu in the Workplace in 2015
Gaithersburg, MD - Adventist HealthCare LifeWork Strategies celebrates local employers in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia that helped to fight “the flu” in their workplace during the 2015-2016 flu season with the fifth annual Flu Fighter awards. The 30 winners of the 2015 awards are recognized for their efforts to protect the health of their employees and community.
“This is our fifth year presenting the Flu Fighter Award to local businesses who have their commitment to a healthy workplace and we are honored to continue this tradition,” said Mindy Pierce, director of LifeWork Strategies at Adventist HealthCare. “Preventing seasonal flu and complications from the flu in the workplace is an excellent example of improving employees’ and the community’s overall health and well-being.”
The Flu Fighter award winners made flu prevention a priority for their employees by not only offering flu vaccinations at work but also promoting a healthy and safe environment. To be considered for the Flu Fighter award, employers were required to submit an application detailing their actions to keep employees healthy. All award recipients offered a work-site flu vaccination clinic. A majority of winners also covered the cost of the vaccine for employees. Each award winner provided resources to employees such as paid sick leave, hand sanitizer, hand-washing posters and surface cleaner in the workplace to prevent the spread of the flu. Many awardees maintain a formal workplace policy on sick leave and return to work, specific to the flu and the contagious illnesses.
“By partnering with local employers to provide well-being programs aimed at keeping employees healthy helps Adventist HealthCare fulfill its mission of improving the health of the people and communities we serve. ,” said Marta Brito Pérez, senior vice president and chief human resources officer with Adventist HealthCare.
LifeWork Strategies will be honoring their Flu Fighter award winners at an upcoming event called “LifeWork Connections,” which will take place at Boulevard Tavern in Gaithersburg, MD on Tuesday, March 15th 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. The event will feature presentations on tips and strategies for creating employee incentive campaigns including presentations by Mindy Pierce, director of Adventist HealthCare LifeWork Strategies and Emily Noll, MS, national director with CBIZ Wellbeing Solutions.
