Adventist HealthCare Behavioral Health & Wellness Services Provides Telemental Health at Fort Washington Medical Center

Rockville, MD — Adventist HealthCare Behavioral Health & Wellness Services (BH&WS) is excited to announce its partnership to provide telemental health services to Fort Washington Medical Center’s Emergency Department. Telemental health allows BH&WS medical experts to use live video technology to remotely assess Emergency Department patients with behavioral health crises and determine their treatment needs.

Each year, Fort Washington Medical Center (FWMC) serves over 40,000 patients in its Emergency Department. Approximately 10 percent of these patients have behavioral health symptoms. BH&WS experts in Takoma Park are now using live, two-way video to observe and assess a patient’s behavioral health needs from FWMC.

“The use of telemental health helps FWMC better identify patients with behavioral health needs, reduces ED wait times for behavioral health patients, and expedites access to care,” said Adam Younoszai, M.D. Medical Director of Adventist HealthCare Behavioral Health & Wellness Services in Takoma Park. “We are thrilled to partner with FWMC to offer its patients improved access to behavioral health services.”

“Almost 19 percent of Prince George’s County residents have self-reported experiencing some form of mental distress,” said Griffin Davis, MD, MPH, MBA, Senior Vice-President and Chief Medical Officer of Fort Washington Medical Center. “Fort Washington Medical Center wants to meet all the health needs of our community and this innovative program helps our residents get the help they need within their community. We are excited about our partnership and the ability to provide this much needed service to our patients.”
