Baby Girl Born at 12:03 a.m. New Year's Day
Rockville, Maryland – The new year began with a new addition for a Germantown, Maryland, family at Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center. The hospital’s Birth Center welcomed its first baby of 2018 at 12:03 a.m. on Jan. 1, a girl weighing 7 lbs. 6 oz. Both mom and baby are happy and healthy. The baby is among the first born in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area in 2018.
“Each baby born at Shady Grove is special to us, but we’re particularly excited to welcome the first baby of 2018,” said Kathy Dallas, Director of Women’s and Children Services. “We look forward to adding many more babies to our Shady Grove family this year.”
As the first baby born at Shady Grove in 2018, the New Year’s baby and her parents will receive a special gift from the hospital – a large basket of gifts filled with toys, books, clothing and other baby essentials.
Shady Grove Medical Center delivers approximately 5,000 babies each year. For babies who need specialized care when they arrive, Shady Grove has a Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), one of the highest possible ratings attainable. Shady Grove holds a Baby-Friendly designation through the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for its commitment to breastfeeding education and support. The Birth Center is staffed with all board-certified lactation consultants, an achievement that earned the hospital the first International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) Care Award in Maryland. The hospital also has the area’s first and only birth advisor – a nurse who provides free counseling, birth planning and support services for parents-to-be, including those with complex situations or who need extra guidance before baby arrives.
