Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center Welcomes First Baby of 2019 Seconds After Midnight
Rockville, Maryland – Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center rang in the new year with the birth of the hospital’s first baby of 2019! A Silver Spring, Maryland, family welcomed a baby girl, weighing 5 lbs. 15 oz., just 34 seconds into Jan. 1. Both mom and baby are happy, healthy and recovering at Shady Grove’s Birth Center. The baby is among the first born in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area in 2019.
“We are delighted to welcome the first baby of 2019 at our Birth Center,” said Kathy Dallas, Director of Women’s and Children Services. “Our team looks forward to adding many more Shady Grove babies to our family in the new year.”
As the first baby born at Shady Grove in 2019, the New Year’s baby and her parents will receive a special gift from the hospital – a large basket of gifts filled with toys, books, clothing and other baby essentials.
Shady Grove Medical Center delivers approximately 5,000 babies each year. For babies who need specialized care when they arrive, Shady Grove has a Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), which cares for some of the smallest and most critically ill newborns in Montgomery County. The Birth Center serves new moms with all board-certified lactation consultants, an achievement that earned the hospital the first International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants Care Award in Maryland. The hospital also has the area’s first and only birth advisor – a nurse who provides free counseling, birth planning and support services for parents-to-be, including those with complex situations or who need extra guidance before baby arrives.
