Adventist HealthCare Hospitals Earn National Recognition for Commitment to Quality Stroke Care
GAITHERSBURG, Md. ― Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center and Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center each have received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get with The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite recognition for high-quality stroke care. Shady Grove Medical Center also received association’s Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll recognition.
For the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite award, both hospitals met seven achievement measures over the course of 24 months. Those measures track stroke treatment under the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines. The hospitals also had to administer the clot-dissolving tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, treatment to at least 75 percent of ischemic stroke patients within 60 minutes of arrival to receive the distinction.
"This recognition from the American Stroke Association exemplifies White Oak Medical Center’s commitment to saving lives by continuously striving to improve our stroke care," said Yolanda Chik, MD, stroke medical director of the hospital’s Stroke Program.
To receive the Stroke Gold Plus Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll recognition, Shady Grove Medical Center met five eligibility requirements, which included qualifying for a Silver level or higher achievement for the Get with the Guidelines® module and demonstrating compliance for the overall diabetes cardiovascular initiative composite score for 12 consecutive months.
"These awards demonstrate the high-quality care that every single one of our team members provides our stroke patients," said Perry Smith, MD, Stroke Medical Director for Shady Grove Medical Center.
