Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center Receives National Recognition for Maternal Care
SILVER SPRING, MD ― Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center (WOMC) has received recognition from Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for the safe and high-quality care it provides to expecting mothers.
The BCBS Blue Distinction Specialty Care program recognizes healthcare organizations for providing quality care and exceptional patient results. The Blue Distinction Center designation recognizes healthcare facilities and providers for their expertise in delivering specialty care. White Oak Medical Center is among only 25 percent of hospitals in Maryland to receive BCBS’ Blue Distinction for Maternity Care, demonstrating WOMC’s expertise and commitment to providing quality care for all deliveries. Hospitals with this distinction demonstrate better overall patient satisfaction and a lower percentage of early elective deliveries.
CMS’ “Birthing-Friendly” designation is based on publicly-reported data about the implementation of evidence-based quality interventions in hospital settings to improve maternal health. This new designation from CMS reflects a nationwide call to action to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity.
“It is an incredible honor to receive recognition from both public and private payors for the outstanding care our team members provide to our patients and community,” said Anthony Stahl, president, White Oak Medical Center. “Our team is compassionate and truly committed to extending God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing.”
White Oak Medical Center received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group in Spring 2023 and Fall 2023 and was recently recognized by the Maryland Perinatal-Neonatal Quality Collaborative for antibiotic stewardship and hypertension care of newborns.
“These recognitions let patients and providers know they are choosing to seek care at a hospital that puts safety first,” added James Rost, M.D., Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at White Oak Medical Center.
