Shady Grove Is Among 222 U.S. Hospitals Honored for Dedication to Improving Outcomes
American Heart Association’s Commitment to Quality Award
Recognizes Hospital’s Achievements Across Multiple Specialties
ROCKVILLE, Md. - Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center has earned the American Heart Association’s 2026 Commitment to Quality award, which recognizes the hospital’s comprehensive, systemwide approach to quality improvement. Shady Grove Medical Center is one of just 222 U.S. hospitals to earn the recognition.
The award honors Shady Grove Medical Center’s high achievement in three or more of American Heart Association (AHA) Get With The Guidelines® programs. Participating hospitals commit to using real-time data registries, evidence-based clinical protocols and cross-disciplinary collaboration to raise the standard of care across multiple specialties.
Earlier this summer, Shady Grove Medical Center’s heart and stroke care teams received several AHA specialty care awards for their commitment to the latest treatment guidelines and improving patient outcomes, including:
- Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus Award with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll and Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus designation for the care of stroke patients
- Get With The Guidelines® – Coronary Artery Disease NSTEMI Silver Award with Target: Type 2 Diabetes, research driven cardiac care and improving the health of patients with cardiovascular disease and diabetes
- Get With The Guidelines® – Resuscitation Silver Award, for care of patients experiencing an in-hospital cardiac arrest
"This honor demonstrates our hospital’s dedication to continuous improvement and delivering high-quality care across every department,” said Neil Roy, MD, the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer. "It also reflects the commitment of our care teams to our Mission, making sure we meet the physical, mental and spiritual needs of all our patients. We’re grateful for this recognition and inspired to reach even higher for the people we serve.”
“This award highlights the impressive commitment Shady Grove Medical Center has made to improving care across multiple disciplines,” said Karen E. Joynt Maddox, M.D., MPH, chair of the American Heart Association Quality Oversight Committee. “By taking a systems-level approach to quality, these hospitals are building a strong foundation for better outcomes, fewer complications and healthier communities."
The Commitment to Quality award is the latest in a string of national recognitions this year for Shady Grove Medical Center. So far in 2026, the hospital has earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, the HeartCare Center National Distinction of Excellence from the American College of Cardiology and was named to Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals and Healthgrade’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery. In addition, the hospital’s pediatric and critical care nursing teams and its Center for Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine each garnered national honors for high-quality patient care.
