Check Your BMI
Calculate your body mass index, or BMI, to get insight into your health. Talk to a doctor at Adventist HealthCare in Maryland about your BMI and other health concerns.
BMI measures your weight in relation to your height. BMI results, along with other measurements and factors, can help determine if you're at a healthy weight. A high BMI may mean you're at risk for certain health problems.
BMI may not be an accurate measurement tool if you're:
- An athlete or body builder
- An older adult with weakness or trouble moving
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
- Younger than age 20
Obesity is a BMI of 30 or higher. It means too much body fat, which can increase your risk for:
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Sleep apnea
If you're a woman, obesity may make it hard for you to get or stay pregnant.
