Radiation Therapy

Accreditation Means You Get Top-Quality Care

When you choose Adventist HealthCare for radiation therapy, you’ll benefit from:

  • Personalized plans for treatment and follow-up care
  • Strict measures to keep you safe
  • Evaluations of your condition at least weekly
  • Highly trained staff available 24/7
  • Sophisticated equipment

You can trust us to provide the best treatment. The American College of Radiology (ACR) awarded radiation oncology accreditation to the Shady Grove Adventist Aquilino Cancer Center and Shady Grove Adventist Radiation Oncology Center at Germantown. You won’t find our level of care in radiation therapy at most health care facilities; only 15 percent of U.S. hospitals are accredited in radiation oncology. Radiation Oncology services at Washington Adventist Hospital are accredited by the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO).

Types of Advanced Radiation Treatment

Get precise treatment for cancer at any part of your body with methods such as:

  • 4D CT based treatment planning with MRI and PET scan fusion capabilities, which tracks tumor motion.
  • 3D and Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), which uses multiple radiation beams with different shapes and intensities to sculpt the radiation dose.
  • Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), which takes mini CT scans or x-rays prior to each treatment to ensure treatment accuracy.
  • Brachytherapy, which involves placing or implanting radiation sources to deliver higher doses than can be given externally to tumors within prostate, breast, esophagus, lung and gynecologic cancer sites.
  • Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), which is used in place of an invasive surgery to treat cancers within the brain.
  • Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), which delivers lethal radiation doses to tumor cells in the lungs, liver and spine.

Radiation Simulation Preps You for Therapy

Before you get radiation at Adventist HealthCare, you’ll run through a simulation with members of the cancer care team, so you’re prepared for treatment and know what to expect. You’ll learn how to position yourself during therapy, and your team will perform a CT scan of the area of your body with the tumor. With Adventist HealthCare’s 4-D CT planning approach, your exam will take less time, and you’ll feel more comfortable.

A medical professional will then either use a marker or create freckle-sized tattoos on your skin to show where to aim radiation. This helps ensure you receive precise treatment.
