Cancer Surgery

At Adventist HealthCare, you’ll find board-certified surgeons experienced in using the latest evidence-based techniques to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.

Types of Cancer Surgery

Your doctor may recommend your cancer care plan include one or more of these surgeries:

  • Preventive surgery – Removes tissue that could become cancerous, such as colon polyps or breasts in women with a family history of breast cancer
  • Diagnostic surgery – Takes a sample of tissue from your body for testing, or biopsy
  • Staging surgery – Removes tissue samples and sometimes lymph nodes to see how far cancer has spread in your body
  • Curative surgery – Eliminates tumors and may be used along with radiation therapy or chemotherapy
  • Reconstructive surgery – Restores the appearance or function of part of your body after cancer treatment

During your procedure, anesthesia will help prevent pain.

Minimally Invasive Surgery for Cancer

Whenever possible, your cancer surgeon at Adventist HealthCare will perform your procedure using a minimally invasive technique that reduces pain, scarring and recovery time. Your surgeon may use the robotic da Vinci Surgical System, which makes tiny incisions, employs miniature instruments and makes especially precise movements—so you experience the best possible outcome.
