Emergency Mental Healthcare
In a mental health crisis, prompt care could save a life. Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center responds in a timely way. We’ll assess your needs and help you get compassionate support.
When to Seek Medical Attention
Call 988 or go to your nearest emergency room (ER) if you:
- Have persistent, overwhelming feelings of hurting yourself
- Want urgent help for substance use
- See or hear distressing things that aren’t real
988 Lifeline
By calling or texting 988, you’ll reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. If necessary, a crisis counselor can send out local:
- Emergency medical technicians (EMTs)
- Police officers
- Social workers
These team members will help you as much as possible. They may also recommend you go to the hospital for care.
In the Emergency Room
In the ER, a friendly team member will decide whether:
- You can safely return to the community with referrals to mental health resources, such as our:
- You need admission to Shady Grove Medical Center’s inpatient mental health program for your safety
We recommend the least restrictive level of care for your needs. So, you get support while living as independently as possible.
