When to Seek Medical Attention

Call 988 or go to your nearest emergency room (ER) if you:

  • Have persistent, overwhelming feelings of hurting yourself
  • Want urgent help for substance use
  • See or hear distressing things that aren’t real

988 Lifeline

By calling or texting 988, you’ll reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. If necessary, a crisis counselor can send out local:

  • Emergency medical technicians (EMTs)
  • Police officers
  • Social workers

These team members will help you as much as possible. They may also recommend you go to the hospital for care.
